Manaua, which was the episcopal office in Notitias, was mentioned since the 6th century, and was last seen in 1199 in the form of Manavğat (Armenian), and remained as an administrative unit during the Ottoman period. Today's district center was formed by the merger of Pazarcı and Dusenbe villages on opposite sides of the Manavgat river. It is thought that the ancient cities of Side (Selimiye Village) and Selge (Altınkaya Village) were founded in the 6th century BC. Manavgat was under the rule of the Seljuk Empire in 1220 and the Ottoman Empire in 1472. Sultan Alaattin Keykubat named the city he conquered in 1221 as Alaiyye.
The north of Manavgat is surrounded by the Taurus Mountains. The coastline is lined with beaches and unique beaches. As you go from the sea to the inner regions, a rough terrain is observed next to the flat plains that can be planted. Eynif Plain, hidden among the Taurus Mountains, is famous. There are plateaus on the Taurus Mountains where nomads stay. The Alara Stream, Karpuz Stream, which forms the border of the district in the east, and the Manavgat River from the district center and the Manavgat Waterfall on it are as famous in the world as they are in Turkey.
There are two hydroelectric power plants named Oymapınar Dam and Manavgat Dam on the Manavgat River within the boundaries of the district. There are 6 bridges on the river, three of which are open to pedestrian and three to vehicular traffic.
