Söke is a town located in the west of Aydın province in the Aegean Region, with a coast on the Aegean Sea. In the north of the county, Selçuk district of İzmir province, northeast of Germencik, east of Koçarlı, and northwest of Kuşadası, south of Didim. There are 49 neighborhoods in the district.
Former name: Greek: Σώκια, Sokia, Aneon Söke, towards the end of the Byzantine rule, around 1300, it is said that Aydın Bey brought the Turkmen tribes here and made Söke the center of the tribe in the name of the grandfather of Süleyman Şah, who was the head of one of these tribes. Although Söke, which was the center of Menteşe Principality in 1426, continued to be the center of Menteşe Sanjak of Aydın Province during the Ottoman period, it became the sanjak of Kaptanpaşa Province from the 17th century, and in 1841 it became a subordinate of Aydın Province (Aydın Province after 1861) to Sığla sanjak. It remained an accident. After 1924, it became the district of Aydın.
Between the 19th and 20th centuries, Yörük tribes belonging to the Bozdoğan Tribe from Söke were forced to migrate to regions such as Kozan Postkabasakal Village, Zeytinbeli town, Tarsus and Çukurova by the Ottoman State.
