The first settlement of Kumluca was established in 1830 under the name Sarı Kavak, on the slopes of the hills, 5 km east of the center of the district. Finike separated from Elmalı and Iğdırmağardıç Subdistrict of Antalya were divided into Kumluca and Kemer, Kemer was connected to Antalya and Kumluca to Finike. Meanwhile, Sarıkavak is a neighborhood of Iğdırmağardıç Subdistrict. Today's Kuzca Village was a separate parish back then. In 1924, the center of Kuzca Subdistrict was moved to Gödene (Altınyaka), and Kumluca Subdistrict was established in the place where today's district center is located, where nomadic people settled and became a crowded center over time. Kumluca sub-district grew even more and became a district by leaving Finike in 1958 with the law numbered 7033.
While there was no settlement in today's district center, a villager from Sarıkavak planted a watermelon on the west bank of the Cavur Stream, where the present city center is located, which is a sandy and heather land. On the beach and fertile land, the watermelons are quite large. While the grower was taking the grown watermelons to the villages and selling them, the villagers asked where he had grown these watermelons. He replied, "On a sandy place by the creek". The praise of the famous watermelons of this village caused the name of the place where the watermelons are grown to be "Kumluca" in time.
