Tlos was an ancient Lycian city located near the Seydikemer district of Muğla today. The ancient settlement, which starts on the steep western slopes of Akdağlar (Kragos), the highest mountains of the region, reaches the valley plain formed by the alluviums brought by the Eşen River. The ancient neighbors of the city, which stands out with its defensible mountainous terrain and dominant position over the Eşen Plain, include the cities of Araxa in the north, Wiyanawanda (Oinoanda) in the northeast, Kadyanda in the northwest, Awarna (Xanthos) in the south, Pina (Pınara) in the southwest and Atriya (Telmessos) in the west.
